Fads and trends

Whenever the kids look at our childhood pictures they always ask about what clothes I am wearing.  (They do this ever so nicely never making fun or being sarcastic.  Ok, Ok...We all know that  it is more like, "Mom, what on earth are you wearing?!?")  Anyway, as much as I try to explain that our clothes were in fashion and one day their childhood photos will be made fun of by their children, they simply don't understand.

Here are a few examples.

Photo #1-Back in the 80's it was in style  to peg your pants.  You really only saw this done by teenagers.  Because we were the "COOL" ones.  Anyway, pegging your pants is done by folding the bottom of your pant leg so it is tight against your leg.  You then roll it up a few times to keep it in place.  Then because your pants are now shorter that intended, you wear matching socks scrunched up at your ankles.  It really is quite the statement.  I will admit that I was the only one in the family who did this on a regular basis. I endured mocking from the family, because "all my friends were doing it."  I tried to help Jordan and John on the fashion train, but they just weren't convinced.

Photo #2-In this picture you might notice that I am sporting a cast.  You may notice that it is WHITE.   Back in the day casts came in one color... white.  However, if I remember right this was my second cast of the summer.  The first one was plaster and then this one was made out of a brand new light weight casting material. These days cast come in all colors and patterns.  I have even seen casts in camouflage.

Photo #3-I will limit my comments to the following:
"Whoa, look at the bell bottoms!"
"Who wears short shorts?"

Trees

Dad recently lost the knuckle on his thumb due to an accident involving a tree limb and a saw. I thought it might be fun to look back and see a few of the trees he's taken down over the years that didn't end in surgery! Look at how many you've conquered, Dad!

Youngest 3 J's

I realized that we have not seen any pictures of yours truly or any of us younger 3, so I thought I'd throw these beauties up there as well.

Wow, look at the fireplace before the remodel of the living room.  (If you look closely you will even see the Bride and Groom cake top on display. )

The Old Ball and Chain

Growing up I can remember sitting in the floor in Mom and Dad's room, playing with the ball and chain that was kept on the floor in their closet. I remember trying to lift it up off the ground, with very little success.

As I got bigger and new people were introduced into the family, the old ball and chain was "ceremoniously" pulled out and tied around the newest fiance for a photo shoot. Come to think of it- I'm not sure if I ever got a picture of Matt harnessed to it or not. I suppose I'll have to pull it out next time I'm there and make sure to get a picture.

Does anyone know how the ball and chain came to be in our family? (Heaven help me, but I can't remember for sure.) Also, I'd love to see pictures of others wearing the ball and chain. If they are lost maybe we'll have to remember to bring it to our next reunion.

Mom and Dad's wedding cake

Speaking of beginnings...I found this picture of Mom and Dad's wedding cake.  I haven't stumbled on any more wedding pictures yet, but I am sure they are in the boxes somewhere.  I also know that some of them are on slides (which we will be converting to digital image soon).

In April while we were in Colorado, we found the bride and groom.   I remember looking at them growing up and thinking that they were so neat. Over the years they have been broken several times.  (Mom says Jordan and I were the culprits, however, I have serious doubts.  I mean does that sound like something I would be involved in?)  Anyway, I glued them back together the best I could and cleaned them up.  They look nice.  Unless Mom has moved them, they are now back out on display in the china hutch.

Anyone else have memories of the "bride and groom"?

Beginnings....

I thought it would be fitting to start our blog with some pictures of where our family all began.

Here are some pictures I found of Dad and Mom.   Obviously Dad was in the Army.  I am not sure where the picture was taken.  Maybe Mom or Dad can tell us where  I believe the picture of Mom was her Senior picture.

I am grateful to the wonderful parents we have.  Thanks Mom and Dad for raising us.  Hopefully this will be just the beginning of some fun memories for our family.
